Session Submission Type: Roundtable
Fellowships can be a great opportunity to pursue professional interests, while simultaneously helping to build and expand skillsets and knowledge and expand professional and personal networks. Fellowships, both within the U.S. and internationally, come in a variety of forms, purposes and goals, offering individuals the opportunity to carry out research, to study, to teach, and/or to work in a policymaking setting, among others. Seeking fellowship opportunities is an increasingly competitive process and preparing a successful application can be a challenging and time-consuming exercise. This session will provide a practical overview of different fellowship opportunities in the social and political sciences supported by a range of organizations. The panel includes staff from different fellowship programs who will discuss their respective program priorities for scholars at all career stages. With extensive experience in evaluating applications as part of the fellowship process, panelists will discuss the opportunities at each of their organizations with a key focus on the fellowships available to political scientists and the specifics of what makes for a good application.
