This panel examines the various ways in which people can be mobilized to take political action and the strategies used by organizations and social movements to promote engagement. Voluntary associations and nonprofits can provide a gateway to political participation even when their aims are not overtly political. Individuals will weigh a range of factors before deciding to join an organization or take part in a protests and political events.
