The Legal Construction of Time and Terminology in US Migration Policy

Fri, September 6, 4:00 to 5:30pm, Marriott Philadelphia Downtown, 410

Session Submission Type: Created Panel

Session Description

This panel explores the many bordering practices that occur within the law and bureaucracy of the American immigration system. The papers reveal the ways in which legal categories and terminologies, as well as policies designed to hold migrants in limbo and the use of time itself, serve to exclude and mark people as undeserving. These trends are observable across the areas of asylum, detention, TPS, and Title 42.
