This session explore the diasporic outreach policies of a wide variety of sending states, with a particular focus on the behaviors of authoritarian or repressive states towards their diasporas. How do states engage in repressive tactics from afar, and how do states encourage and channel mobilization of their diasporic citizens? Countries under study include: China, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Turkey, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.
