Session Submission Type: Full Paper Panel
As we navigate the complexities of contemporary authoritarian governance and institutions, this panel brings together diverse perspectives to shed light on key aspects shaping authoritarian political landscapes and changes within authoritarian governance. Topics will span the deployment of surveillance technologies targeting regime insiders, the impact of ideological stances on autocratic stability, the role of pre-independence elites in decolonizing autocracies, to the transformative effects of digital media on authoritarian political parties. Collectively, by embracing varied theoretical paradigms and diverse methodologies, the papers on this panel will initiate a vibrant dialogue on how processes of governance in authoritarian contests redefine state-society relations.
