Gender, Intersectionality, and American Party Politics

Sat, September 7, 10:00 to 11:30am, Marriott Philadelphia Downtown, Salon D

Session Submission Type: Full Paper Panel

Session Description

To what extent do the major political parties hinder or facilitate the emergence and representation of diverse candidates in political leadership? The papers on this panel seek to answer this question by considering how political party culture and party infrastructure (ie., campaign finance and organizations) might shape the emergence of gender diverse and intersectionally diverse candidates, as well as these candidates’ experiences navigating political opportunity structures at the local, state, and national levels.
