The business of international sports relies on a mixture of public authority and private business. For scholars of international politics, it provides a provocative field for observing the interplay of concepts, theories, and forces that are often kept siloed by state-centric theories of IR. I use FIFA and the International Olympic Committee to explore the blend of public and private, and of domestic and global, that constitutes the institutional and corporate foundations of the largest global sports spectacles.
