This editorial draws together the papers of the Parliamentary Affairs special issue that forms the theme of this panel. It will be presented as a brief talk at the start of the panel to introduce the context of the special issue and explore some of the key themes that have emerged. In a potentially era-defining election year, the paradigmatic shift underway in the everyday world of British politics must be accompanied by a paradigmatic shift in the disciplinary analysis afforded by political science. Crucially, our approach acknowledges the structured power hierarchies and relationships that continue to define the formal institutions and informal political culture of the UK state.
