The Origins of Policy of Grassroots Grid Governance in Urban China

Fri, September 6, 2:00 to 3:30pm, Marriott Philadelphia Downtown, 407

Abstract

Research based on the origins of policy can help to understand how governance mechanisms evolve. The onset and spread of urban grassroots grid governance have profound historical roots, and the interaction between critical junctures and process tracking may examine the inherent characteristics and operational mechanisms of the system. The academic community's research of urban grassroots grid governance more on digital technique, policy diffusion, and governance capabilities, with less emphasis on its historical origins. The paper focuses on the generation genes and roots of urban grassroots grid governance for a long period of time, through the combination of social science and historical analysis. The paper argues that grassroots grid governance is rooted in the interaction between the intrinsic cultural system and spatial production in Chinese society, which reflects the inherent historical continuity and social order of the evolution of urban grassroots governance in China.
