From Silence to Speech: Women’s Participation in Christian Nationalism

Sun, September 8, 10:00 to 11:30am, Loews Philadelphia Hotel, Washington A

Abstract

Christian nationalism is a movement traditionally associated with upholding traditional religious values and the perceived superiority of men. Despite this, several female political figures, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, frequently employ Christian nationalist rhetoric. This paper explores the intersection of women's participation in Christian nationalism through the Her Voice Movement, a burgeoning female collective that champions Christian nationalist ideals.

Through a comprehensive case study, this paper delves into the dynamics of the Her Voice Movement, shedding light on how women navigate and contribute to a political movement often perceived as patriarchal. By analyzing the movement's core principles, rhetoric, and the experiences of its participants, I aim to uncover the complexities surrounding the inclusion of women within Christian nationalism. Her Voice Movement is slated to host political rallies at every US state capitol and Washington, D.C. in April 2024, presenting a unique opportunity for timely research.

The findings of this research contribute to broader discussions on the evolving nature of Christian nationalism and challenge assumptions about the role of women within such movements. As political landscapes continue to evolve, understanding the nuanced dynamics of women's involvement in Christian nationalism becomes crucial for comprehending contemporary political and social phenomena.
