This study explores the impact of corruption at state and local levels on the fiscal health of
municipal governments, analyzing its effects on financial sustainability. Focusing on the
municipal sphere in Mexico, it employs structural equation modeling and census data from
2018, 2019, and 2021. The research extends the financial sustainability framework, considers
various indicators through factor analysis, and highlights the distinct multi-level effects of
corruption on municipal fiscal conditions. The findings emphasize the practical and social
implications for discussions on municipal public finance in the complex context of corruption
among public officials.
