Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable explores the convergence of digital humanities and pedagogy by exploring how instructors integrate digital tools into the classroom. Each participant will present a specific tool or project they have either used or built, and how they have employed this tool in a classroom environment.
Jennifer Thompson, with discuss the development of her Fall 2024 course where students across several disciplines will research LGBTQ Jewish resources as part of a new course, Queering Jews and Judaism, and work with CSUN’s Center for Geospatial Science and Technology (CGST) to add these sites to the map using GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
Sara Benor will discuss digital resources that have been developed through the HUC-JIR Jewish Language Project, on Jewish ancestral diversity, using the lens of language to counter Ashkenormativity in Jewish studies classes.
Noam Pianko will discuss using the Posen Digital Library as a resource for creating diverse and inclusive source material for survey courses within Jewish studies.
These brief presentations will be followed by a group discussion of the practical considerations for integrating digital tools into existing syllabi.
