Session Submission Type: Lightning Session
Disability and the disabled body/mind (otherwise denominated as BODYMIND) has received increasing attention within Biblical and Rabbinical studies. This session contributes to this growing body of scholarship in its focus on bodily and intellectual disability within the Hebrew Bible and ancient Jewish literature. Papers will treat topics such as cognitive disability in the Book of Proverbs, madness in the Hebrew Bible, and embodiment within Rabbinical texts. In addition to these scholarly presentations, this session will also feature responses from two respected scholars in this field, followed by a round table discussion and q&a.
Cognitive Disability in the Book of Proverbs - Tyler Moser, The University of Texas at Austin
Mad Studies and Samson's Spirit Possession - Kirsty Jones, Ashland University
