This panel will examine relations between Jewish and Catholic New Yorkers in the 1930s, through of the lens the two communities’ interactions concerning two foreign policy issues of concern to both Jews and Catholics, the persecution of Jews in German and the Spanish civil war. Panelists will consider how these areas of conflict and cooperation impacted Catholic-Jewish relations both in New York City and in the broader arena.
