Abstract

Israel Studies is a relatively recent arrival in the field of Jewish Studies in Germany. How does Israel Studies look like in Heidelberg, which links were built to the discipline of Middle East Studies, and how does Israel Studies look different in a German setting in comparison to the US or the UK? The presentation provides an overview over the last decade of Israel Studies in Germany, discusses both the advances and the challenges of this research field, and provides an in-depth overview of teaching Israel Studies at the Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies.
